Abstract

Abstrak: This research is motivated by the teacher's role, one of which is as a motivator in charge of providing motivation to students. Given the importance of Civics learning to shape the character of the nation's generation, teacher efforts are needed to motivate student learning in Civics learning. In this case the teacher motivates students during group discussions. This study aims to determine the role of teachers as motivators and their efforts to motivate student learning in Civics learning with group discussions. This research includes a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects were 1 PPKn teacher at Al Falah Junior High School Bojonegoro, and 4 students in class VIII. The results showed that Civics Education teachers played a fairly good role in teaching and learning activities that were seen in Civics learning by using group discussions, through the efforts made by Civics teachers to motivate students including by generating student interest by making learning opening activities as interesting as possible, giving awareness to students, creating a fun learning process, using praise and reinforcement, as well as giving gifts and grades. The obstacles faced by teachers in motivating students are when they condition students to start discussions, condition the class and arrange students for concentration, a less conducive learning atmosphere, students who are still passive, limited learning time, and inadequate learning facilities.
