Abstract

Problem solving ability is very important in learning mathematics. Students need to understand the stages to solve mathematical problems. Mathematics anxiety is one of the factors that affect problem solving ability. Mathematics anxiety can have a negative impact on students' problem solving abilities. This study aims to describe mathematical anxiety on mathematical problem solving abilities in solving social arithmetic problems. Subjects consisted of 30 students of class VIII A SMP MIGAS Senori taken one person each who met the criteria of low anxiety level, moderate anxiety level and high anxiety level. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. This research instrument uses a questionnaire and data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results showed that (1) Mathematics anxiety had a negative effect on SA and SF subjects who were included in the high and moderate category of anxiety in this study. (2) There is a relationship between math anxiety and problem solving ability. The lower the level of math anxiety, the better the problem-solving ability. (3) Online learning can reduce students' math anxiety levels because students do not need to meet directly with the teacher. Keywords: Mathematics Anxiety, Problem Solving, Social Arithmetic
