ABSTRACT Susanti. 2019. Improving Students’ Speaking Skill by Storytelling Technique (Aclassroom Action Research of Grade VIII at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Randublatung, Blora in the Academic Year 2018/2019). A Final Project, English Education Department, Faculty of Language and Art Education of IKIP PGRI BOJONEGORO, First advisors: Reffi Ranto Rozak, M.pd. Second adviors: Siti Ermawati, M.Pd.I. Keywords: technique, storytelling, storytelling technique, speaking skill. The aims of the research were to find out technique of storytelling in teaching English to improve students’ speaking skill and students’ responses about using Retellling Technique in learning English at eighth grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Randublatung, Blora in the academic year 2018/2019. The background of this research is there are many students that have not enough in speaking skill. The researcher conducting this research in order to teaching English on speaking skill in the classroom be interesting that can cause students to be active, can improve their speaking skill, and enjoy in learning English. In the Speaking skill we should know about accent, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. The subjects of this study were 17 students in the eighth grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Randublatung, Blora in the academic years2018/2019. In constructing this research, the researcher collected data from the classroom action research, which was carried out through by 2 cycles, each cycle there were two meetings and one meeting for pre-testand the totaly there were five meetings. Every cycle there were four steps they were plan, action, observation, and reflection. The technique of analyzing was data applied by qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data was taken from interview and observation sheet. The quantitative data was taken from the speaking test. The result of analysis showed that there was improvement on the students speaking skill and students’ responses were positive (they can enjoy the teaching and learning process and their speaking skill were improved after applying Storytelling Technique).
