Abstract Faizin. (2019). The Effectiveness of Team-Based Learning in Variation of Non-Traditional Writing Task to Improve the Students Critical Thinking in Writing Skill. Bojonegoro: IKIP PGRI Bojonegoro. Keywords: Team-Based Learning (TBL), Non-Traditional Writing Task; Critical Thinking Skill, Writing Skill. Writing lesson in language courses gives more emphasis on how to write free writing or essays. The obstacles in learning writing skills are placed on the basic skill of language such as; students usually write a passage by diction, because of their limitation of their vocabularies, students mostly misunderstanding toward the statements given by teacher or audio recorded. The ability of the students also limited on the sentence only, and its difficult to improve in the passage form. Actually, the use writing in science is an opportunity to show students how and why they learn (Hand, Pran, Lawrence and Yore, 1999). This aimed was to know the Team-Based Learning is effective toward the students critical thinking in writing skill. This study employed quantitative pre-experimental method, the writer get the data from interview, observation, questionnaire and tests. The study use 167 students as the pupolation and the writer take 35 students as the sample by using Area/Cluster Random Sampling. Treatment given by the writer along five meetings. During treatment, teacher devided students into five group that consist of 5-6 students that have the same level (low, medium and high) of ability in each group. In the implementation of TBL students should work in team for doing the task given by the teacher. This method is effective to make students for knowing new vocabularies. Then, the writer collecting the data using a combination of test (Pre-test and Post-test) and then analyze it using T-tes to know whether there is improvement of the students critical thinking. By the T-test, the data shown that the students scores average are improve from 74 in the pre-test section being 78,35 in the post-test section. Based on the result, in can be taken conclusion that There is a significant effectiveness of Team-Based Learning in variation of non-traditional writing task to imrove the students’ critical thinking in writing skill. Then, This study can be used by founder research to help the next writer to improve Team-Based Learning method (TBL) that collaborate with any learning media. If used by collaborate between the teacher creativity that fits to the students needs, the writer sure that the TBL will gives more benefits to improve the students writing skills.
