Keywords : picture prompts, writing, narrative text, action research Among the four skills of language taught in school, writing is difficult to be learned and taught. As one of the language skills that is taught in Senior High School, writing narrative texts needs more attention because students get some difficulties in mastering narrative text. Based on the problems above, the writer focused on the strategy in the way of teaching and learning process that can make the condition in the classroom as effective as possible. Therefore, some teachers usually use picture to help students in writing, especially writing narrative texts. In this case, the writer chose the use of picture prompts at the tenth Graders of SMA Plus Al Amanah Bojonegoro in the academic year of 2018/2019 to do an action research. The objective of the research is to find out the implementation of picture prompt in improving students‘ writing ability. The researcher used some writing tests, field notes, observation and questionnaires in collecting the data. In this research the researcher conducted one cycles . In cycle one, two meetings for treatment, and a formative test. The result of the data showed a significant improvement of the students writing narrative text. The students writing improved in all writing aspects including organization, content, grammar, mechanic, and style. The average results after conducting the research improved; pre test (5.24), formative test (78.00), and post test (82.00). Furthermore, based on questionnaires and field notes, it shows that the implementation of picture prompts made the students‘ behavior changed. They were more interested in writing narrative texts. The prompts could ease their problem and helped them in revealing the ideas. Therefore, it can be concluded that picture prompts as learning media contributes to the improvement of students‘ writing in narrative texts. ABSTRAK Kusna, Shofa Soida. 2019. Sebagai salah satu keterampilan bahasa yang diajarkan di SMA, menulis teks naratif perlu lebih diperhatikan karena siswa mendapat beberapa kesulitan dalam menguasai teks naratif. Berdasarkan masalah di atas, penulis fokus pada strategi dalam proses belajar mengajar yang dapat membuat kondisi di kelas seefektif mungkin. Oleh karena itu, beberapa guru biasanya menggunakan gambar untuk membantu siswa dalam menulis, terutama menulis teks naratif. Dalam hal ini, penulis memilih penggunaan gambar bisikan di kelas sepuluh SMA Plus Al Amanah Bojonegoro pada tahun akademik 2018/2019 untuk melakukan penelitian tindakan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui penerapan picture prompt dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa. Peneliti menggunakan beberapa tes menulis, catatan lapangan, observasi dan kuesioner dalam mengumpulkan data. Dalam penelitian ini peneliti melakukan satu siklus. Dalam siklus satu, dua pertemuan untuk perawatan, dan tes formatif. Hasil data menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan dari siswa menulis teks naratif. Siswa menulis meningkat dalam semua aspek penulisan termasuk organisasi, konten, tata bahasa, mekanik, dan gaya. Hasil rata-rata setelah melakukan penelitian meningkat; pre test (5.24), tes formatif (78.00), dan post test (82.00). Selanjutnya, berdasarkan kuesioner dan catatan lapangan, itu menunjukkan bahwa implementasi gambar meminta membuat perilaku siswa berubah. Mereka lebih tertarik menulis teks naratif. Prompt dapat meringankan masalah mereka dan membantu mereka mengungkapkan ide-ide. Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa gambar diminta sebagai media pembelajaran berkontribusi pada peningkatan menulis siswa dalam teks naratif.
