Abstract

ABSTRACT A novel is a literary work of fiction that describes human life that is imaginative, tells a complex and comprehensive story of human life and contains many values that can be conveyed to readers. One of the novels that contains many values is the novel Orang-Orang Biasa by Andrea Hirata. This study aims to describe and describe moral and social values and their implications as teaching materials for Indonesian language learning in high school. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study. The analysis technique used is data triangulation technique. This research has several procedures, including: data collection, data selection, data analysis, and making reports. The results of the data research concluded that there are 4 forms of moral values, namely moral values contained in the relationship between humans and themselves, moral values contained in the relationship between humans and other humans, moral values contained in the relationship between humans and society, moral values contained in the relationship between man and God. There are 7 social values that can be seen, namely intimacy, reciprocation, giving, respect, help, harmony, and care. The results of this study can be used as teaching materials for Indonesian language learning in SMA. Specifically in basic competencies to analyst intrinsic and extrinsic element of the novel.
