Abstract
Abstract This study aims to describe the effect of EQ ability on students' mathematical problem solving abilities. This research is a quantitative study. This research method uses a correlation survey, the sample of this research students in MTs.Petak Beged Gayam, Bojonegoro Regency class VIII-B consisting of 25 students, the sample was taken using cluster random sampling technique. The research instrument consisted of observation, EQ (emotional intelligence) questionnaire and tests of mathematical problem solving abilities. The data analysis technique used is Product Moment Correlation. From these results, it is obtained that emotional intelligence (EQ) affects the solving of students' mathematical problems in building material, with a correlation coefficient of 0.618. Or in other words, students' emotional intelligence affects the solving of math problems on building material. While the coefficient of determination reaches 51.5%. The equation of the regression line is ̂ = 139.275 + 0.4658X, meaning that if someone gets a score on emotional intelligence of X then that person can be predicted to get a value of ̂ on solving math problems.
