Abstract

Abstract This study aims to determine the mathematics problem solving ability of junior high school students in building materials. The subjects of this study were students of tutoring in Prambontergayang Village, Soko District, Tuban Regency. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The instruments in this study consisted of interviews and essay tests. Data analysis techniques carried out include data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. From these results, a description of the students' mathematical problem-solving abilities was seen from their learning motivation as follows: 1) students with high learning motivation were able to answer all the questions correctly and correctly, 2) students with moderate learning motivation were able to answer some questions correctly and some were still done not in accordance with what was wanted, 3) students with low learning motivation were only able to answer two questions correctly and partly wrong, this was because the student was not careful and did not look back at the results.
