Abstract

Ni'mah, Zulfiyatun. 2024. Improving Students' Vocabulary Using Songs in Grade Seven MTs Walisongo Sugihwaras. Thesis, English Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Language and Arts Education, IKIP PGRI Bojonegoro, First Supervisor: Fitri Nurdianingsih, M.Pd. and Second Supervisor: Dr Refi Ranto Rozak, M.Pd. Keywords: CAR, English Songs,Improving, Vocabulary Vocabulary is very important in speaking English because it can greatly influence the gist of the conversation. If someone does not know the vocabulary, then communication will not be established well, making mistakes in pronouncing several words in a sentence also greatly affects the conversation between the person and the person they are talking to, so this can disrupt communication, and can even be one of the factors that causes communication to break down. In fact, many Indonesian students have difficulty understanding English pronunciation because they do not have sufficient vocabulary, and the words they hear or speak are often different from their written form. To overcome this problem, the author uses songs as an effort to improve students' pronunciation skills. By using this technique it is hoped that it can make students more enthusiastic and more easily master English vocabulary. This research is classroom action research carried out through two cycles. The participants in this research were class VII students at MTs Walisongo Sugihwaras Bojonegoro for the 2023/2024 academic year. Data was obtained by interviewing English teachers, student interviews, observation, tests, and documentation. The research results showed that there was an increase in students' vocabulary after being taught using songs. This is proven by the students' scores increasing in each cycle, in the pre-cycle the average score for students was 63.41 and in cycle 2 students got an average score of 77.31. Based on the results of the checklist observations, it shows that students gave a positive response by becoming more enthusiastic and active.
