Abstract
ABSTRACT This reaserch’s purposes is to describe students' mathematical problem solving abilities in solving social arithmetic problems in terms of student personality types This kind of reaserch is qualitative description. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The research instrument consisted of a Keirsey personality type questionnaire, problem-solving tests and interviews. Data analysis techniques carried out include data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of the analysis show that (1) the Guardian students solve the problem can do 3 stages of the pattern, namely understanding the problem well, planning the solution appropriately, carrying out the plan correctly but not checking again because they feel the answer is correct. (2) Artisan students can do 4 stages of their pattern. Understand the problem well, arrange a solution plan coherently, carry out the plan with correct calculations and algorithms, and carry out re-examination (3) Rational students in solving problems with the pattern stage are only able to carry out the stage of understanding the problem. (4) Idealist students solve problems can do 3 stages of the pattern, namely understanding the problem well, being able to develop strategies, implementing plans with a short method Keyword : problem solving, personality types, social arithmetic
