Keywords: cooperative principles, politeness principles, front of the class Humans are social creatures who cannot exist alone, therefore interaction is constant between us. Communication makes it easier for humans to interact so that the aims and objectives to be conveyed can be materialized. Therefore, to fulfill the goals and objectives of communication, rules are required that can control speakers and interlocutors to cooperate in realizing good and smooth communication. This research used descriptive qualitative design. The subject of this research is the front of the class movie. Therefore, this study aims to describe the types of cooperative and politeness principles used by the main character. The subject of this research is an American film entitled Front of the Class. The result of this study is the main character cooperative in his utterance, he said what he believed to be true, give enough information, what he said relevance with the context, and his utterance clearly and briefly. In addition, the main character ais lso polite in his utterance, he maximize benefit to other, giving prise, maximize dispraise of self, maximize agreement and sympathy to other characters. in term of cooperative principle is a maxim of quality which represent 21 data with percentage 50%, maxim of quantity 11 data (26,2%), maxim of relation 8 data (19%), maxim of manner 2 data (4,8%). in term of politeness principle the most dominant is approbation maxim which represent 5 data with percentage 35,8% . agreement maxim 4 data (28,6%), tact and sympathy maxim has the same data that is 2 data (14,2%), modesty maxim 1 datum (7,2%), the researcher did not find generosity maxim in front of the class movie.
