Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of the study is to find the good moral to find the character education in the film The Lord of The Ring: The Return of The King and to describe the method to build of character education values in the film The Lord of The Ring: The Return of The King. This study uses content analysis methods that analyze the contents of dialogue and characters based on values character education. National education is essentially aimed at shaping character. The values of character education instilled in schools aim to shape the character of students when messages and moral values can be obtained through the media of learning in schools. Learning media in promoting moral values and character education can use film media. Film is a very powerful tool in the hand that uses it effectively for a purpose especially for the majority of people and also for children who do use their emotional aspects more than their rationality. This film is a medium that contains a message of character education values. So it is necessary to analyze the character education developed in the movie "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King". This research is included in the qualitative research using the semiotic approach of Roland Barthes theory and including the type of document research. In collecting data the method of observation and documentation are used. The results of this study indicate that: First, there are character values in the film "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King", namely the value of belief, hard work, responsibility, care, and the spirit of nationality. These values are developed so that humans can live and practice the values of character education for their personality. Second, there are 3 methods of formation, namely the method of trust and assistance, leadership, and example.
