Improving students’ Vocabulary through Semantic Mapping Strategy in Eight Grade of MTs Islamiyah Malo in Academic Year 2018/2019, Faculty of Languages and Arts Education, IKIP PGRI Bojonegoro, Advisor (I) Dr. Ifa Khoiria Ningrum, M.M., Advisor (II) Ayu Fitrianingsih, M.Pd. Keywords: vocabulary, semantic mapping strategy This study is aimed to find the improvement of Semantic Mapping Strategy in teaching Vocabulary in eight grade of MTs Islamiyah Malo. This study is categorized as Classroom Action Research. The writer did two cycles where every cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The data was got through qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative data was got by interviewing the teacher about the students, while quantitative data was got from the students’ score of pre-test, post-test and questionnaire. The findings of this study was there are improvement on students’ vocabulary mastery. It can be seen from the mean score of pre-test was 39.75. Then the mean score of post-test was 80.25. Then, from t-score that was higher than t-table, 14.26 is higher than 1.703. This meant that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. So, it can be concluded that Semantic Mapping Strategy could improve the students’ ability in English vocabulary. In addition, based on the analysis of questionnaires, it revealed that most of the students gave positive responses about Semantic Mapping Strategy in teaching vocabulary. It means that the students got benefit from that strategy. Besides that, Semantic Mapping strategy did not only help students to improve their vocabulary, but also made students find ways in order to make it enjoyable and easy for them to memorize the words.
