Abstract

ABSTRACT Writing is an activity in which a person expresses ideas, thoughts, expressions, and feelings that are used to communicate with readers in written words. It is difficult for students to start writing. Based on this problem, the teacher must use appropriate techniques in teaching writing. In this study, guided questions techniques were offered to teach descriptive text writing. This research was conducted in order to find out how to apply guided questions technique in teaching writing descriptive text and to find out how teachers and students respond to the implementation of the guided questions technique in teaching writing descriptive text. In achieving the research objectives, the authors use case study research. There were 24 students and English teachers in class VIII A at MTs Muhammadiyah 3 Sumberrejo who were part of the research. The instruments used in this study were observation, interviews, questionnaires and documentation. Observation results show that guided questioning techniques are implemented through the following steps: (1) The teachers guided questions techniques to students based on the topic of the day. (2) Then the teacher asks one or several questions that aim to measure the ability of thinking and understanding of the students. (3) The teacher provides opportunities and asks students to answer questions and then ask students to convey the results of their answers. (4) Then the teacher provides guidance to students to be actively involved in using guided questions techniques that are intended to make students feel that they have no difficulty in learning to write descriptive texts and to measure students' abilities in writing descriptive texts. Whereas in the beginning there was little difficulty in students who only survived for a while. In addition, the response of teachers and students to the implementation og guided questions technique in teaching writing descriptive text as evidenced by the results of interviews showed that teachers and most students gave a positive response. They agree that the question and answer technique helps in managing student ideas. In conclusion, guided questions technique can be the right technique in teaching writing descriptive text. Based on this study, the author suggest that high school level English teachers use guided questions techniques in teaching descriptive writing the aim is to make students more active in writing descriptive techniques.
